How would you describe the atmosphere at Jake’s on 6th? Jake’s on 6th is very relaxed and elegant, the best place to enjoy a glass of wine.
How long have you been serving there and what do you enjoy most about your job? I started the end of June 2009. I was a part of the opening crew for Jake’s along with Angie, Ali, Justin and the entire Totah family.
What is your definition of a “wine snob?” Thankfully we don’t get too many of these. It’s only when some- one scoffs at the fact that we don’t carry their favorite wine.
Are you a local or did you move here from somewhere else? I moved to Southern California in 2004 and most recently San
Diego in 2006. I grew up in Idaho where I spent most of my time playing soccer which is a big reason why I moved to California.
One thing that people might not know about you, that you would like to share. I played college soccer and football and am finishing my Kinesiology Degree at SDSU.
I would imagine you have a great knowledge of wines…was this something you were schooled in or was it by just learn- ing the ropes in the business? By no means am I an expert or pretend to be
one. I enjoy wine and love learning about it. It’s pretty much on the job training but Richard and Jennifer always have wine reps coming in who are always more than happy to share their knowledge with us.
Your personal preference…red or white and name one of your favorite wines. Red 95 percent of the time, unless it’s a hot day and we haven’t had too many of those lately. But if you come in to Jake’s on 6th you have to try the Gotham Shiraz or Bianchi Zinfandel.
How diverse is the selection of wines offered at Jake’s on 6th? Richard does an incredible job at bringing in
very diverse, unique wines that you can’t pick up at Bev Mo. I guarantee you won’t find many of our wines at other wine bars.
What are a couple of menu items that you enjoy at Jake’s on 6th? Three words… Chicken pesto Panini. Also the hummus is Rima’s and Jake’s secret recipe.
Finally, what would you say, your motto is in general? British Musician Matt Hales said it best, “If love is not the answer then maybe I’ve misunderstood the question” and “Life is an Adventure.”
