in the third quarter as North Hen- derson committed two turnovers and the Warriors had a fumble as well. Brown made an 11-yard pass to Brookshire for the score, giving the Warriors a 28-14 edge. Te Warriors defense forced an-
other turnover late in the third, and Curenton capitalized early in the fourth quarter as he scampered in from 3 yards out for a touchdown. Erwin controlled the ball for
much of the fourth quarter, and Brown’s last touchdown of the night, a 51-yard strike to Curenton, gave the Warriors a commanding 42-14 lead. North Henderson tacked on a
touchdown late for the game’s final score. Te Warriors will play at home
again Friday (Sept. 17) against Mountain Heritage, who advanced to the Class 2-A state championship game last season and is 3-0 this sea- son. Kickoff will be at 7:30pm. Editor’s Note: To view photos

Sexton says this week’s game a challenge
By Catherine Hunter Though Erwin had another
big win Friday (Sept. 10) against North Henderson, the Warriors will have to work hard this Fri- day (Sept. 17) against Mountain Heritage. Coach Mike Sexton said the rival team is big, well coached and plays extremely hard. “This week will be a very phys-
ical game,” Sexton said. “There will be a lot of hitting and bodies flying around.” The Warriors trounced the
Knights 42-20. They jumped to a quick 21-14 lead, but went into the half with just a seven-point edge. “We jumped to a quick 21-0
lead and slowed enough in the second quarter to allow North Henderson to get back in the

game,” said Sexton. “They’ll have to realize they can’t relax their intensity against good teams and continue to win. You can’t ever relax in a football game.” According to Sexton, the play-
ers rose to the challenge. Quar- terback Garrett Brown tossed five touchdowns, two to Shaquan Curenton and two to Tanner Brookshire. “I’m extremely pleased with
the all-around effort and glad everybody got a chance to play,” Sexton said. After a season-opening loss to
Pisgah, the Warriors (3-1) have now reeled off three straight vic- tories. Sexton credits the War- riors’ continued success with the team’s hard work. “We also have a lot of players
you can count on to perform at a high level each week,” said Sex- ton.
