popular television show “Sanford and Son” with his childhood friend Blake Goldman. Goldman lives with multiple
sclerosis, a disease that affects how the nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord communicate. When Parker decided to take a
two-day 200-mile bicycle trek to raise funds and awareness for the disease, he asked his friend what he should call his team. Goldman offered “Sanford Spin-
ners.” Parker, the coach of the girls’
basketball team at North Bun- combe High School, will ride 100 miles on Sept. 25 from Charlotte to Florence, SC, and then on Sept. 26, he will pedal another 100 miles to Sunset Beach in the 25th annual Breakaway to the Beach event orga- nized by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National MS Society. Parker is hoping to raise $1,000
for his efforts. “It all goes to a real good cause,”
