Pomp and ceremony are the or- der of the day as Marines congregate to enjoy their brotherhood and “Esprit de Corps” that is unique amongst all the branches


of the military; and once again the New Hampshire “Gathering” will adhere to maintaining that deco- rum during the evening’s agenda. Sponsored by the Lakes Region Detach- ment of the Marine Corps League, the ceremony will consist of the presenting of the colors by the De- tachment Honor Guard, the singing of the National Anthem and the Marine Corps Hymn, the read- ing of the Marine Corps Commandant’s message to the Corps, the salute to the other branches of the military, and the special honor this year of recog-


nizing Lt. Col. Kenney for his 28 years of service to the Marine Corps. Lt. Col. Kenney is well


known in New Hampshire, both for his military his- tory as well as in the po- litical arena having served for four terms in the House of Representatives from Wakefield, another four terms in the New Hamp- shire State Senate, before becoming the Republican nominee for Governor in 2008. Although he was unsuccessful in that effort, the Marine Corps called upon him once again in late 2008 to serve in Af- See MARINES on 23
