Brigadier General Camille M. Nich- ols is commanding general, Joint Contracting Command, Multi- National Force-Iraq. She made his- tory in September 2008 by becoming the first commander of the U.S. Army Expeditionary Contracting Command, a subordinate command of the U.S. Army Contracting Command, a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. She had recently been promoted to brigadier general during an advancement ceremony conducted at the AMC Headquarters at Fort Belvoir, which enabled Brigadier General Nichols to go from expedition- ary contracting command director to its first commander and top ranking officer. Brigadier General Nichols has over 20 years of experience in Depart- ment of Defense acquisition. She holds certification in contracting, program management, and systems engineering. Some of her contracting assignments include serving in AMC’s Inspector Gen- eral’s office, performing contingency and reconstruction contracting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in support of Operations Desert Shield and Storm, and working with the Defense Contract Management Command.

Brigadier General Nichols began her Army career in 1975 when she left her home- town of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and entered the U.S. Army as a private. She was later commissioned as an engineer officer upon graduating from the U.S. Military Acad- emy at West Point in 1981. She then earned a Master of Science degree in systems management from the University of Southern California in 1986, a Master of Arts in strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College in 1995, a Doctorate of Science from George Washington University in 1996, and a Master of Science in national resource strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 2002.

On September 27, 2007, Hector E. Pagan was promoted to brigadier general at a ceremony held at the Fort Bragg Officers Club. Brigadier General Hector E. Pagan is the first Hispanic of Puerto Rican descent to become deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, N.C.


In 2008, he was selected to head U.S. special operations forces in Latin America as commander of Special Operations Command South at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Fl. Special Operations Command South oversees Special Forces, civil affairs and psychological operations missions in Latin America. The command man- ages more than 200 special operations deployments per year with an average of 42 missions in 26 countries at any given time.


Brigadier General Pagan attended the Infantry Officers Basic Course and Ranger School in 1980, and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 51st Infantry, in Germany, as a rifle platoon leader, company executive officer and scout platoon leader. In 1983, he attended the Infantry Officers Advanced Course and remained at Fort Benning, Ga., with the Infantry Training Group and the 29th Infantry Regiment, where he served as chief, Special Weapons Committee, operations officer, and commanded the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Bn., 29th Infantry Regiment from 1984 to 1986. He volunteered to attend Special Forces training and was as- signed to 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne).


Upon completion of the U.S. Army War College in 2003, Brigadier General Pagan took command of the 5th SF Group (Airborne) in Baghdad, Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom. He led the 5th SF Group (Airborne) in combat as the commander of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force in the Arabian Peninsula for two combat tours in 2003 and 2004. In 2005, Pagan served as the special assistant to the commander of the United States Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fl. In 2006, he assumed duties as the deputy director of the Operations Support Group in the Center for Special Operations in the U.S. Special Operations Command. Brigadier General Pagan became the deputy commander of U.S. Army Special Operations Command in November 2006, and in May 2007 he assumed du- ties as deputy commander, U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center at Fort Bragg, N.C. He earned a master’s degree in management from Troy State University and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
