oo often, we view success as a completed portrait. The paint is dry, and all we’re left to do is admire. We forget the countless sketches erased, redrawn and erased again to craft that perfect image. When we think about the accomplishments of the women and men who have radicalized the ways we’ve harnessed energy, received life-saving medicines, and explored outer space, we’re content to simply marvel at the final product. Yet underneath these masterpieces of science, engineering, technology, mathematics, and medicine are the struggles and triumphs of countless Hispanic scientists and engineers, doctors and businesspeople, who overcame seemingly insurmountable odds to change our world.

For the past 25 years, Hispanic Engineer & IT magazine has brought us these sketches of success. In its inaugural is- sue, HE&IT shared the story of Dr. Mario Molina, one of the first scientists to iso- late the chemical reactions that created the Ozone hole. HE&IT invited us to step back from the overall picture of climate science and examine Dr. Molina’s part of that portrait. Our alums have also served their country in all branches of the military. HE&IT has remained invested in the careers of women like Major General Angela Salinas, whose advancement through the Marine Corps

has expanded the options for Hispanic and Latina women as she works to prepare new generations of our nation’s finest soldiers.
Hispanic Engineer & IT remains vital after 25 years because it introduces positive role models in a world that, at times, tragically lacks them. We craft portraits of success earned through hard work and fair play. These men and women have bettered our lives without hope of recognition, and given the breadth of their achievements, recognition is the least of what we owe them. Painting these remarkable individuals into the great portrait of America will remain Hispanic Engineer & IT’s imperative for the decades to come.
