London's first Corinthia Hotel set for 2011 launch
Operator to add ninth property to global portfolio with new 294-bedroom hotel on Northumberland Avenue By Martin Nash

Corinthia Hotels' first London hotel – and the world's ninth
– is due to open early next year. Corinthia Hotel London will
be housed within an existing Victorian building on Northum- berland Avenue between Trafalgar Square and the River Thames and set around an inner foyer and garden. Facilities will include two
restaurants, a luxury spa, a concept cocktail bar, board- room meeting facilities and a refurbished grand ballroom.

by GA Design International, which is also creating the ESPA spa, as well as the suites and one of the two restaurants. Interiors' designer David Collins is creating the bar, Bassoon, and specialty restaurant.

HLF support for theatre revamp
Plans for a £4m develop- ment at the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth have received a first-round pass from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The venue is working
with the University of Portsmouth on the project and has been given a grant of £63,000 to help progress its bid for a full award worth nearly £1m.
