Consultation to explore Herne Bay plans Canterbury City Council (CCC) has unveiled a six-week consultation to allow local residents to comment on a draft masterplan for the regeneration of Herne Bay. The council is working with Coplan and Denne to transform the area, which will see a new hotel built in the centre of the town. The plans will be on display at Christ Church in William Street until 25 September, while copies of the proposals are available at the CCC office and Herne Bay library.


NI community centre contractor named Banbridge District Council has


chosen Newry-based company Felix O'Hare to deliver a new £2m community centre in Gilford, County Armagh. The proposed new Stramore Park facility will boast a multi-purpose, four- court sports hall designed to accommodate a range of indoor sports, as well as a fitness suite and meeting rooms. It is hoped the centre, which is due to open in September 2011, will act as a hub for sports and arts activities.

Brooks of consultancy Allsop have been named as receivers to Sheridan Millennium, which currently holds the lease to the IMAX in Bournemouth. Sheridan Millennium's lender called in Gershinson and Brooks over outstanding rent and service charges. Bournemouth Borough Council, which aims to transform the venue into a new tourist destination, confirmed the move would not affect its development.

By Pete Hayman A multi-million pound bid to acquire London's historic Walthamstow Stadium as part of efforts to return greyhound racing to the venue has been turned down by owners London and Quadrant (L&Q). Bob Morton, a businessman


and honorary president of the Greyhound Owners, Breeders and Trainers Association, is reported to have bid between £8-9m for the stadium. However, L&Q told the


Waltham Forest Guardian that Morton's bid failed to meet the


"current market valuation and potential of the site". L&Q is planning to transform


the Walthamstow Stadium site with an affordable housing project, but has now come under fire from the campaign


EU funding for Bridgend project


Plans for a multi-million pound regeneration of Bridgend have been given a boost after the Welsh Assembly Government confirmed more than £7.7m towards the scheme. Funding has come from


the Convergence Euro- pean Regional Develop- ment and the Targeted Match Fund and will complement local authority and Heritage Lottery Fund support. It is hoped the project


will increase commercial confidence in the area and improve pedestrian safety.

Gravesham Borough Council (GBC) has announced that plans for the creation of a new £120m Heritage Quarter in Gravesend, Kent, will be considered by its regulatory board on 20 September. London-based property


group Edinburgh House is working in partnership with the local authority on the develop- ment, which is to be carried out in two stages and initially went before planners in April before being deferred. The proposed Heritage
