How Do You Truly Measure the Impact of NYTW?
Throughout this report, numbers are used to quantify the success of NYTW’s activities and projects. Words are equally important in measuring the impact of our accomplishments. As a prologue to the numbers, here is what the Workshop has meant this year to various members of our community, in their own words:
“I definitely feel part of a community and that is invaluable. I felt comfortable and welcome and challenged by conversations in artistic meetings, the 2009 Vassar retreat, with artistic staff and with my fellow Fellows.
-Deena Selenow, 2009/10 Directing Fellow
“I personally enjoyed the play. I think it was good for us that we got to see their side of the story. All we ever get to see and hear is our side of the story... I felt like I got a real inside look on what really happened and how it affected the lives of many people, not only our troops.”
-Tiffany Tavarez, LoMA student on Aftermath performance
“The Dartmouth Residency helped my play’s development in that I was able to gain a clear idea of what its current strengths and weaknesses are. My collaborators ... enabled me to see the play with new eyes and from a fresh perspective, each contributing ideas, insights and observations about the play that excited and inspired me.”
-Jeanne Sakata, Playwright
“Mind the Gap was an inspiring way to get people from different roads of everyday life to think outside the box. Normally as a teenager, you wouldn’t bond with someone with so many years under their belt, but this program and the people you’ll meet will change your way of thinking. “
– Craig Spencer, Mind the Gap participant
“Internships at NYTW provide young theatre artists with the opportunity to be a part of a world class theatre institution as it selects and supports its productions. By observing and participating in this process on the ground level, one gains a better understanding of how Off-Broadway theatres function.
” -Steve Gaultney, Spring 2010 Literary Intern
“All in all, NYTW is one of the dependable pleasures of life in New York and I can’t imagine being without it!”
-Ernest Pennington, Repeat Defender Patron
