The Transportation Security Administration: We’re Hiring
Today’s employment market isn’t for the faint-hearted. It seems like no matter where you turn, it’s the same story. Downsizing. Cutbacks. Layoffs. It’s enough to make even the most optimistic job seeker ask, “Is anybody out here hiring anymore?” Well, we are. We’re the Transportation
Security Administration, or TSA. As a division of the Department of Homeland Security, we take the lead in securing our nation’s airports. We’re also involved in securing America’s railroads, highways, and public transit systems. You’ve probably seen some of us working as Transportation Security Officers at airport checkpoints. Every day, as Transportation Security Officers, or TSOs, we help ensure the safety of over two million passengers. Did you know that in a typical year, the agency hires close to 12,000 TSOs? And, with increased levels of security and the application of new, dynamic technologies, that number is growing.
Diversity in Demand Transportation, by its very nature, is a global enterprise, and securing the public crosses all borders, languages, and cultures. That’s why it’s important for TSOs to be a skilled and diverse group. Our Officers, after all, interact with travelers from all over the world. If you speak a second language you could be especially helpful in engaging with the
traveling public. At TSA we know that a diverse workforce brings different ways of looking at things. We take pride in our commitment to hiring, inclusiveness, and career advancement for women and minorities. We know that this philosophy helps us attract, inspire, and retain some of the most talented people in the United States.
TSOs are Federal employees, who work in both part-time and full-time positions. The biggest benefit as a part- time employee is the availability of the same benefits offered to full-time TSOs. At TSA we offer a wide range of health insurance choices, vacation, personal leave, paid holidays, paid training, flexible work schedules, supplemental insurance benefits, retirement investment options, and a defined benefit (pension) retirement plan. We also offer a unique, competitive pay scale.
Careers Made Here If you’re selected to become a TSO, not only will you receive training, you’ll also have opportunities to advance your career by applying for more senior and managerial positions. Depending on your goals, a TSO job can match your priorities. You may be able to choose where you want to live, and whether, or how often, you travel. We even have Career Coaching Services to help you find, and succeed on, the path that’s right for you.
At the Transportation Security Administration, our vision is to protect the nation’s transportation system by combining world-class technology with a highly-motivated, inclusive workforce. So if you’re flexible, innovative, and creative, why not check out TSA and help us make our vision a reality? For more information about working
