Get on the property ladder with Helena Living

The housing ladder has never been that easy to get onto and over the last ten years the bottom rungs have stretched out of reach for all but the wealthiest first time buyers.

That’s where Helena Living steps in with its range of affordable housing options for first time buyers, families and older people.

Shared ownership is a great way of getting into home ownership and is becoming an increasingly attractive option for people across the borough. Shared ownership allows buyers to buy a percentage of the property – which can be as low as 50% - and then pay rent on the other share.

David Taylor, Marketing Manager for Helena Living, said: “The smaller deposit needed to buy a shared ownership home is one of the most popular features for buyers. Many of our buyers have no difficulty in making regular mortgage payments but it is the huge deposits which banks are demanding which freeze them out.

“Shared ownership allows people to buy part of a property with a manageable deposit and slowly build up over time, if they wish, to 100% ownership. This smaller deposit also makes it much more possible for mum and dad to help out and for people who are perhaps coming from a broken relationship to purchase a new property.”

Young couple Gavin Rigby and Debbie Clarke – St Helens’ born and bred – have taken advantage of shared ownership at Liberty Place to set up home together.

RAF aircraft engineer Gavin said: “We looked at the shared ownership deal and Debbie and I decided to go in together and buy a house. We got a mortgage straight away for the 50% but the best thing was the way that shared ownership cuts down on the deposit you need to find.”

Queen of Clean Gives Heald Farm Court the Seal of Approval

Televisions ‘Queen of Clean’, Aggie MacKenzie, has given the thumbs up to Helena’s Heald Farm Court development.

The star of ‘How Clean is Your House?’ was on hand to officially open the scheme in Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows, which offers high quality properties with on-site care and support.

Queen of Clean, Aggie, enjoyed a tour around the scheme, which comprises 89 luxury apartments for people over 55, as well as extensive facilities such as a restaurant, gym and even a hairdressers.

Heald Farm Court was completed towards the end of last year and there are now just a few apartments and bungalows left available on a shared ownership basis and for outright sale.

Aggie also managed to squeeze in a game of Connect4 with residents in the beautifully landscaped gardens, and unveiled a plaque to commemorate the opening of the scheme.

Guests at the event were entertained by children from Newton-Le-Willows Primary School, who came along to sing songs from their recent production of Annie.

Heald Farm Court was developed by Helena Living, with St Helens Council, and part funded by the Department of Health, and is managed by MHA Care Group.

The £12.5 million extra care development offers residents independent living, combined with access to 24 hour care and support, as and when they need it, provided by MHA.

Aggie MacKenzie said: “Everyone I’ve met here seems very happy living here in their new homes, the facilities are absolutely fantastic and it’s great that everyone has their own living space, but there’s always company if people want it.”
