Summer 2010 Gas safety notice

As your landlord we are legally bound to carry out annual gas servicing and safety checks to all of our homes.

We will send you a letter with an appointment date and time four weeks before we are due to carry out this check and then send another reminder a week before.

You have a role in making this process as smooth as possible. We need you to:

• Be in your home at the date and time given in your appointment letter

• Let us into your home to carry out the annual safety check

• Don’t use or allow the use of any appliance you think might be dangerous

If you let us into your home on the first visit we will enter you into a free prize draw for £100.

A small number of tenants don’t give us access to their home when we come to carry out the safety check. We will take legal action against anybody who persistently refuses access. We do this because it is so important to ensure that you, your family and the people in your local area are not a risk from a faulty gas appliance or gas supply.

If you ever smell gas or fumes in your home:

TURN OFF the gas at the meter OPEN all windows and doors EXTINGUISH all naked flames KEEP people away from the affected area. DO NOT USE electrical switches CALL US IMMEDIATELY ON 01744 637383.

You can also get in touch with National Grid on freephone 0800 111 999.

Helena’s brand new Green Space team are giving a new ‘leaf’ of life to our neighbourhoods.

In the last edition of Headlines we told you about the new grass cutting service provided by our Green Space team. As well as delivering the grass cutting service, our new area-based teams will be maintaining and improving the landscapes on our estates.

The team will focus their efforts on: • Attending to shrub beds • Carrying out a tree audit

• Working to a higher standard through improved techniques and a horticultural focus.

• Community engagement and involvement – which are at the heart of the process.

Our arboriculture team focuses on selecting trees for specific purposes and then planting and caring for them, ensure a more landscape-focused management of trees through tree surveys and ongoing management. The team are busy developing an ongoing Tree Survey that will identify the location of trees, species and tree condition, together with any works required.

Find out about our new Green Base on page 19.
