Car careens off steep bank Local drink begins

By Matt Tate Emergency personnel transport-

ed one passenger by helicopter to Mission Hospitals after a car they were riding in went down a steep embankment around 8 pm Sunday (July 11) in the Coleman Boundary area of Barnardsville. U.S. Forest Service law enforce-

ment charged the driver with driv- ing under the influence, according to spokesperson Candace Wyman. Wyman had few details of the in- cident when reached Monday (July

12). Attempts to reach forest service officials for more information on the driver and the condition of the passenger were unsuccessful. Roger Maney with the Barnards-

ville Fire Department said the ac- cident occurred about seven miles into the national forest. Maney stated that the car tumbled down an embankment of more than 30 feet and came to a rest on its top against several trees. Mountain Area Medical Airlift

picked up the injured passenger near the entrance to the forest at the end of Dillingham Road.
