NBHS Governor appoints teacher to NCCAT board Governor Beverly Perdue has


appointed North Buncombe High School teacher Deborah Aldridge of Old Fort, as well as Gregory West of Fayetteville and Jackie Wooten of Bethel, to the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NC- CAT). Aldridge, an English teacher,


will represent Region 8. She is also an NCCAT alumna. “As a teacher I have been invigorated by attending professional devel- opment programs at NCCAT,” Aldridge said. “As a trustee, I hope to encourage NCCAT as it continues its work of re-energiz- ing the deserving and dedicated teachers of North Carolina.” “Each of these individuals

Crime prevention, fire safety night Te Town of Woodfin is hosting a community event from 5 pm until


8 pm Aug. 7 at Roy Pope Memorial Park and Avery’s Little Corner near Woodfin Town Hall and Woodfin Elementary School. Representatives from the Woodfin Police Department, Woodfin Fire


Department, Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, West Buncombe Fire Department and the Safe Kids of Western North Carolina, and all will be providing safety tips and demonstrations. Hot dogs and refreshments will be provided to town residents. For more information, call 253-4887.
