Esterhuizen, first came across the MAS 05 last November and saw the potential to save costs while, at the same time, freeing up some valuable labour time which could be used elsewhere. With ten polo fields (54 hectares) of grass to mow the investment in the robotic mower was easily justified particularly when you consider the savings being made. The cost of mowing with a
field the day before matches to a playing height of 19 mm and will be adjusted to 25mm for the closed season. The mower is designed to be user friendly, from its easy to operate hand held pendant to its electric actuator operated bat wing configuration which, when folded, reduces the mowers width to 1.9m, so making transportation and storage extremely convenient. Even when operating fully automatically it can replicate a skilled machine operator with parameters such as turn circles and acceleration rates being adjustable to suit ground conditions thereby minimising its impact on fine turf.
