Five go wild in Wiltshire!

STRANGE goings on in Wiltshire. A football match between local rivals Bradford Town and Westbury United was abandoned after five Westbury players were sent off by the referee. This meant that Westbury didn’t have the minimum seven players on the field to complete the game under FA rules. The cause of the problem appears to

be pre-match complaints by the Bradford team on the state of Westbury’s Meadow Lane pitch and temperatures rose between the two sets of players prior to kick-off.

Bradford Town manager, Paul Ranger, was philosophical after the game was abandoned after seventy minutes with his team leading 5-1. He said “Their players let down the manager and their supporters and the referee didn’t have much option. Everyone gets hot-headed but we didn’t antagonise them at all so they are just bad losers really.” “I was frustrated the game was abandoned because we were in control but hopefully the result will stand.” Ranger added: “My players did

extremely well in the face of controversy Quote me happy Wordsmithery!

“Was it as good as sex? Probably yeah. It’s a long while since I’ve had sex - you’d have to ask the wife.”

Iain Dowie on the late equaliser that earned Coventry a point at his old club Crystal Palace.

“There was a late tackle on Grant but he’s still alive so it’s not a major problem.”

Sunderland manager Roy Keane shows as much sympathy as you would expect after midfielder Grant Leadbitter is chopped down against Middlesbrough.

“I don't think you can win the World Cup without scoring points.”

Wonderful observation by Wallabies coach John Connolly.

“Most goals go between the posts.”

Peter Beagrie on Sky after Ipswich beat Coventry.

“And here’s the unmistakable Natalie Gulbis putting for birdie.... except that it’s Morgan Pressel.”

Mickey Walker commentating for Sky Sports on the Solheim Cup...or then again maybe it wasn’t.

“It looked worse than it looked.”

Commentator on Bradford Bulls v Wigan

“Just three singles off the over for England, who are now two without loss.”

David Lloyd apparently doesn’t understand the rules of cricket.

“That game could have gone either way. It didn’t but it could have done.”

Gary Lineker on the Spurs v Arsenal match.

“Tonight he felt the groin and had he carried on and extended himself in any way, he might have actually pulled it.”

Sam Allardyce on Michael Owen’s groin. Brilliant!

“I feel OK. The only difference is in training you have the press - and they want to come back home and sleep with you. They are just always there.”

Barcelona striker Thierry Henry on his intimate relationship with the Spanish hacks.

Midweek games are fitted in on other weekdays and at weekends

A new drainage system has been put in which helps take away excess water

and it was a great win for us.” A source at Meadow Lane agreed that

pre-match comments about the poor state of the pitch had raised temperatures but that was not the reason five players were dismissed. Ranger said “I would like to say that the pitch was much better than I expected and the groundsman did a great job.”
