ecome a efriender
You can never have too many
friends they say – so become a befriender! Alison Sullivan is doing a fantastic job as a friendship match-maker in North Cornwall. As part of the Befriender scheme, Alison hopes to pair up more volunteers in the future with clients who would welcome some company. Alison said, “Watching a
befriender-pair work out is one of the most heart-warming parts of my job, knowing that you have not only created acquaintances but possibly friends for life.” A befriender is difficult to define
because each case is different and our task at Cornwall Blind Association is to find the right people to put together. There is no doubt that when we achieve this, the volunteer can make an enormous difference to the life of the person they are befriending.
Befrienders are friends, allies,
company and often a connection to the outside world for some people. The befriending volunteer will
support one individual on a regular basis. For some people a regular visit for a chat about close things that matter is all that is needed, for others it may be taking a long walk with someone who can point out the potholes. For most clients it is just good to know there is someone they can rely on. We have a volunteer available at
the moment in the Bodmin area. If anyone feels they would like a befriender please let us know. We also have clients seeking a befriender in other areas of the region. If anyone feels they might like to take on this worthwhile task then please give us a call. You can contact Alison on 07973 858609.
