NreL: 20% wind energy Possible by 2024 wind energy to play major role in eastern u.s.

he US Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) recently released the Eastern Wind Integration and Transmission Study (EWITS). This unprecedented
two-and-a-half year study found multiple scenarios through which 20% of energy production could be achieved by 2024 by using land-based wind or offshore wind in the East or any combination of wind power resources. However, any plausible scenario requires transmission infrastructure upgrades and planning must start immediately.
