n Visit a local Worm Casting Farm to find the right kind of earthworms for your need. n Tubs work much better than buckets. Keep bins in the shade in the summer and in the garage in the winter. n Regular garden worms will not work with indoor composting tubs. n Place bedding in the bottom of the bin so worms can retreat from the cold. n The typical ratio is one pound of worms per square foot of composting bin. n Most composting worms can process the equivalent of its own weight each day. n Red worms can process multiple times

their own weight. n Fresh water should be supplied regularly. n Good drainage is essential so the com- posting material stays damp but not wet. n Worms thrive underground. They do not like light. Fresh air is essential. n Do not compost breads, grains, dairy, cheese, or meat. n Do not “turn” a worm compost pile, as doing so may kill worms or destroy burrows. n Adding crushed eggshells (or other sources of calcium) stimulates worm repro- duction.
