ELLICOTT. Magnificent
mahogany or red walnut and brass inlaid musical and quarter chiming table clock
with full calendar and moonphase. The case is surmounted by a
revolving moon orb, the dial signed ‘Ellicot, London’ on a silvered sector above the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring.
The right-hand subsidiary ring providing the choice of four tunes.
The Grenadiers March; Corelli’s Minuet; Oh What a Pain it is; Latour’s Minuet.
The massive seven-pillar triple gut fusee movement with original knife-edge verge escapement with foliate engraved back-cock, the quarters and music played on nine bells via 16 hammers and 105mm long pin barrell, hour strike on
further bell. The backplate engraved with scrolling foliage and signed at the centre
‘John Ellicot, London’, circa 1730. Height: 27in (68.6cm)
in chapter ring is signed
‘Dan Quare, S. Horseman,
London’.The eight-pillar three train fusée and chain bell striking movement with pivoted verge escapement and playing four verses of one of two tunes at the hour on ten bells with 20 hammers, the quarter repeating lever releasing the music train and allowing it to play one verse for each quarter, the backplate is similarly signed and numbered 185, well engraved overall with putti, leaves, flowers and marks within a wheat ear border, the brass-bound case with ogee moulded caddy cresting above a moulded broken-arch cornice, brass-capped pillars at each corner, side carrying handles and inset on all sides with well pierced and engraved gilt-brass frets,
circa 1720.

LEROY. Louis XVI ormolu and marble rectangular bracket clock by
Charles Leroy. In an ormolu, marble and glass case, the circular enamelled dial with striking and silent movements surmounted by a riband tie and with cast and chased swags and garlands, the case surmounted by an urn of flowers. Height: 18in (45.7cm)
backplate engraved with profuse foliate scrolls around repeated signature.
This is arguably Delander’s best bracket clock
circa 1725-30.
