1. This is one of 60 hand-coloured engravings illustrating the book
The Costume of China, compiled
by George Henry Mason, Major of His Majesty’s 102nd Regiment, and published in 1804. The leather- bound volume shows Chinese figures in the costumes of their individual trades with descriptions for each.

This example shows the Frog Catcher, but the book also includes illustrations of the Pork Butcher,
Barber, Woman preparing Teaand
Fishmongeramong others, and were designed by Pu-Qua of Canton, published originally in 1799.
The volume is coming up at Richard Winterton’s sale on May 27, estimated at £1500-2000.

2. On May 27, Chorley’s of Prinknash Abbey Park in Gloucestershire will offer a collection of six political cartoons relating to Gloucester Municipal elections between 1876 and 1887, lambasting politicians of the day. These satirical Squibs are estimated at £50-70 for the set. Contact 01452 344499

3. The greyhound Heavy Weaponwon both the Benacre Cup in 1909 and Waterloo Cup in 1910, and now a portrait of the dog, along with the 15ct gold Benacre Cup, will be sold by Cambridge auctioneers Cheffins on June 9 and 10.
The oil portrait by Wright Barker (1864-1941) is estimated at £10,000-15,000 and has been passed by descent from Samuel Hill-Wood, owner of the greyhound and chairman of Arsenal Football Club. From the same source comes the Benacre cup which he won, which is pitched at £7000- 10,000.
