The Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup
The highlight of Barbados’ horse-racing calendar and one of the most eagerly anticipated sporting events in the Caribbean is the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup. Held the first Saturday in March each year, and attracting the best horses and jockeys from across the region, USA and Canada, it’s a highly prestigious, hugely social and wonderfully atmospheric event. This year marked the 29th year of the Gold Cup in Barbados and Sandy Lane’s 14th year as its proud title sponsor. Our congratulations go to the 2010 victor of what proved to be a thrilling race, the Canadian-bred seven-year-old grey gelding, Sterwins, ridden by veteran Barbadian jockey, Patrick Husbands.
