OUR STORY

The Weirs Times was first published in 1883 by Mathew H. Calvert. The newspaper, then named Calvert’s Weirs Times and Tourists’ Gazette, was published until Mr. Calvert’s death in 1902.

One of the most remarkable features of the publication was a map of Lake Winnipesaukee which occupied the center spread of the paper. Readers will find the same map reprinted on the center pages of this, and every issue.

The new Weirs Times was re-established in 1992 and strives to maintain the patriotic spirit of its predecessor as well as his devotion to the interests of Lake Winnipesaukee and vicinity.

GOOD STUFF

Locally owned for over 17 years, this publication is devoted to printing the stories of the people and places that make New Hampshire the best place in the world to live. No, none of the daily grind news will be found in these pages, just the good stuff.

Shea-Porter: Reason For Term Limits

To The Editor: Carol Shea-Porter per- ceives fiscal responsibility as nothing more than a euphemism. Her tax and spend policies are clear when she says yes to one program after another us- ing other people’s money to help make sure that we are in her own words “fair”. This is precisely why she espouses “free health care.” My father would say

to me when I was much younger “when someone tells you that they are go- ing to give you something for free you had better hold onto your wallet.” The State of New Hamp-

shire will have to come up with the money for healthcare. This is not even being seriously dis- cussed at this point. The State of New Hampshire Is already facing a two hun- dred million dollar budget shortfall. I think you know how this story is going to end and it is not going to be pretty. Carol Shea-Porter joined

the “Axis of Taxes” almost four years ago giving her a unique part to play in an

economy that cannot be sustained. We are moving in the wrong direction. This country is spending

five dollars for every three dollars it takes in. How many people reading this editorial follow this kind of a budget ? Based on per capita cost

and total population the Town of Wolfeboro cur- rently owes Six hundred and fifty million dollars for it’s share of the deficit, and it is going up. The United States is running a deficit of twelve trillion dollars and this does not include unfund- ed obligations such a So- cial Security, Medicare, and Medicaid or fifty tril- lion more. We will soon be paying only on the interest accrued in this country which means that we will have to print more money backed by nothing. As the dollar loses value through inflation we will not be able to compete globally. In my opinion Carol Shea-Porter is the perfect reason for term limits. See you in November.

What Are The Articles Of Freedom?

To The Editor: The Articles of Freedom

cite instances where gov- ernment has exceeded the limits of its power set by the Constitution. The Ar- ticles include instructions to the representatives of The People now holding government offices. The Declaration of Inde- pendence states that gov- ernment power may exist only by consent of the governed. The People rati- fied, through their State governments, the form of federal government ex- actly as described in the Constitution. All persons in public office, in any branch of government, have sworn or affirmed an Oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitu- tion. If any part of govern- ment exerts any power not specifically described in the Constitution, such ac- tion constitutes an unlaw- ful abuse of government power. The People may assert their Right and authority to hold all gov- ernment accountable in peaceful, measured and deliberate ways. The first Congress of the

United States was con- vened on March 4, 1789. Only Congress may enact law. No acts passed by any Congress may in any wise contradict any part of the Constitution. If any act of Congress, even if signed by any President, contradicts the rules of the Constitution, it is null and void and ought not to be enforced nor obeyed. The above statements are legally correct and have been validated by the rul- ings of many Judges in both Federal and State courts several times from 1803 to today. All gov- ernment belongs to the People. The People do not belong to the govern- ment.

Constitutions are the rulebooks of government. The players of a game must obey the rules that define the game itself. What happens in a game when a player breaks the rules of the game? The other players ask for the rules to be read. If a rule has been broken, the error is corrected and the game continues. Throughout our history, many govern- ment officials have disre- garded the rulebook. It is the responsibility of the People to demand that the Constitution be obeyed. The Articles of Freedom and the Pledge are histori- cal evidence of the People reaffirming their will; that all government power is to be bound by the ‘rulebook’ of the Constitution. If more unconstitutional

‘laws’ are passed, govern- ment power may continue to expand beyond the limits set by the Constitu- tion. More taxes may be demanded to pay for more enforcement. More police may be hired. More pris- ons may be built. More People may be imprisoned. Whether due to ignorance or contempt, government that exerts power and force not authorized by its own rules is tyranny. Constitutional rule of law can exist only when gov- ernment officers honor their Oaths and when the People demand it. Please go to: www.arti-

clesoffreedom.us Restore accountability, sign the Pledge.
