Make the

ay—the birth month of this publisher, ah yes, celebrating

another year. As I have grown personally, so has our magazine. We are now full color, and we recently established our annual January Resource Guide issue. We have added some wonderful new distribution points too. Access to our magazine is easier than ever.

Life... is it easier too? I believe the angst around decisions is easier. Wisdom steps into play and lends a kind, helping hand. My mother just decided, after living five plus years in an assisted living facility, that she needed a change. I’m in the stages of completing her move into a long-term care facility right within the community she’s spent the last twenty five years. It’s a building close by that will better serve her needs. She’ll be making new friends and reacquainting herself with friends from her earlier years.

New friends, new opportunities... I recently met up with some women from the PEARR group. They’ve created a fundraising event for Women in Distress — “Live Boldly 2010”. It’s a two day event. The main event, “Strive & Thrive”, will be held May 22. Most of you may not know that in the not too distant past, I was on the receiving end of support from a women’s organization helping me to make an empowering transition from an abusive relationship. I have healed that part of my life, and now I’m ready to help others. I am in gratitude that I can give back in a way that will assist others to make that transition. At “Strive & Thrive”, my ‘talk’ will include tips on creating a fabulous life after abuse. In addition, I will have my painting easel set up to provide an opportunity for attendees to ‘add a dab’ to the co-creative event painting. Yes, come and tell me what color paint you will use to make your mark on the abstract painting. There will be lots else going on too (see news brief page 16). Dr. Christiane Northrup — I heard her speak at one of the “I Can Do

It” Hay House conferences. I totally respect her work and what she provides in

terms of viable health information for our times. On page 28 you’ll find our “Wise Words” interview with her. She speaks of the fact that a woman’s body is built for pleasure. Exploring our own lives, we note

what brings us pleasure. What excites our senses may be an important key in making decisions that affect our well being, our mental health. Today I suggested to my mother, “Given the room choices you have in the long term care facility, pick the room that will give you the greater pleasure.” At the moment I’m sitting beside

her; she’s resting. The room she’s moving into tomorrow has a fabulous view of a lagoon. The dolphins and manatees come to play and be in a protected space from speeding boats. The north face bay window brings in light from the morning and evening. To the east I can see the Caloosahatchee River (Sanibel Island area/Ft. Myers), palm trees, familiar resident buildings and manicured grounds. I believe with all my heart that there will be many pleasurable moments in this new downsized living space. The evening has come and we are enjoying the daily western migration of birds passing by the window.

I am in appreciation that our

printer has graced me with a little extra time today to put this part of the magazine together for you, without feeling rushed. Today has been a wonderful day. Yes, let’s celebrate the little things

in a typical day that bring us joy. Expect a bounty of pleasures; plan

on it.
