Physiologically, the brain is an electrical and chemical communication system that
relies on proper diet, exercise, oxygenation, and stimulation to function optimally. This means that the brain is dependent upon its carrier for its degree and quality of output. In addition, our emotional personalities and interpretations of experiences play a vital
role in the brain’s ability to restructure itself and create new cells, particularly the way we regulate emotions during physical, mental and emotional challenges.
to function properly and optimally for physical stability which leads to emo- tional stability. But, it makes sense that emotional stability is also its own reward in that it delivers receptivity of problem- solving ideas for deliberate skill-building that result in a positive interpretation of competence which can lead to courage in higher levels of challenge. The more we manage chaotic emotions with di- rected intent, the better equipped we are in meeting challenges, and the greater our future outlook is about ourselves in our world.
In summary and as becomes evi- dent, neuroplasticity is really determined by overall lifestyle with specific attention to physiology and cognition. The two are interdependent aspects of brain output that require awareness and action for op- timal health, personal growth and well-
being. It should be no surprise, then, that the habits that have already been estab- lished as determinants of overall well- being also increase neuroplasticity and evolutionary change and development. They include regular physical exercise, mental exercise (learning, mind chal- lenge puzzles, new activities), balanced nutrition, socialization and relationship- building, exploration of new places and people, laughing, decision-making, dis- cernment-building skills (which include making mistakes and learning how to make constructive changes in behaviors), and stress-reducing rituals that quiet and clear the mind. With attention to these habits, optimism and constructive action become the default mode of operation.
