T’S fair to say the 1960s might not have
been so swinging without one key fashion
item –the revolutionaryminidress.
Iconic images of ayouthful stick-thinI
British model Twiggy striking carefree
poses, draped elegantly in vibrant shift
dressesoften harkbacktoanage of
hedonistic glamour.
Mary Quant may have stolen the limelight
with her mini skirt, but it was one often
overlooked British fashion duo whose
Carnaby Street boutique became amecca for
trendsetters.
Thanks to British designers Marion Foale
and Sally Tuffin, two influential movers and
shakers in the industry during the 1960s, the
shift dress exploded onto the fashionscene.
Tapping into the mood of the time they
successfully established abrand, epitomising
the changing London scene where hip
young things paraded the fashion quarter of
Carnaby Street.
Along withtheir fun,sexyshift dresses
theyfirst createdthe elegant, understated
tailored trousersuitthatbecameone of their
key pieces.
