Innovative Solutions Johnson & Johnson and Walmart:
The Beauty of a 2nd Tier Supplier Diversity Partnership
T
he Johnson & Johnson Group of
Consumer Companies and Walmart
share a mutual commitment to foster-
ing a rich pool of qualified diverse sup-
pliers that bring value to each company
and help drive employment and revenue
growth for their diverse supplier bases.
“We understand the importance of
having a diverse supplier base which not
only reflects our consumers and patients,
but also provides both value and innova-
tive solutions for our marketing, manu-
facturing and research and development
efforts,” said Beverly Williamson, VP
Process Excellence & Supplier Diver-
sity Champion, J&J Consumer Products
Worldwide. To further the commitment to
diverse suppliers, in 2005, the Johnson &
Johnson Group of Consumer Companies
answered Walmart’s call for participants
in its Supplier Diversity 2nd Tier program.
A recent example where the Johnson
& Johnson Group of Consumer Compa-
nies were able to drive substantial rev-
enue to a diverse supplier, while at the
same time deliver a quality/competitive
solution to Walmart, was through in-
store displays. The J&J Group of Con-
sumer Companies partners with Qual-
ity Packaging Specialists International,
recognized as Supplier of the Year by
the National Minority Supplier Develop-
ment Council, delivered thousands of cus-
tomized, in-store consumer product dis-
plays for distribution to Walmart stores.
The supplier is playing a significant
role in the J&J Group of Consumer Com-
panies effort to increase value, re-engineer
the display design process, improve speed-
to-market for Walmart’s displays, and de-
liver a high quality solution for Walmart’s
stores. This type of supplier performance
is the key to driving growth in our diverse
supplier base. “We have been able to more
