the year, and the Spirit of the Game award. CUPA will look at expanding this program to include new
categories in future years.

Ultimate Canada Conference
The 2009 Ultimate Canada Conference presented by VC Ultimate took place in Montreal, Quebec
November 13-15. This conference brought together over 44 delegates from across Canada to discuss
best practices and the future of Ultimate in Canada. In addition to the main stream of programs, Greg
Connelly from the UPA also came to conduct a train-the-trainer session for 7 Canadian observers.
The conference was a wonderful professional development opportunity for organizers from across
the country. One piece of big news is that the membership voted to change the name of the CUPA to
“Ultimate Canada”. The 2010 Ultimate Canada Conference will take place in Vancouver, BC.
Many thanks to the AUM, our sponsors and the planning committee for making this conference
possible!

“At CAC, we truly believe that the presence of competent and ethical coaches has a positive
impact on sport participation, performance and the lives of those they coach,” said John Bales, Chief
Executive Officer of the Coaching Association of Canada. “With its growing popularity, it is exciting
for us to see the sport of Ultimate join the NCCP and we look forward to working with the Canadian
Ultimate Players Association on developing their coach education program.”
This announcement culminates months of dedicated work from the Canadian Ultimate Players
Association and demonstrates its commitment to supporting the development of coaches at all
levels of the sport.
“From youth league participants to national team members, coaches play a vital role in the growth
and development of athletes,” announced Danny Saunders, Executive Director of the Canadian
Ultimate Players Association. “In order to support the continued growth of Ultimate it is extremely
important to have accessible high quality training available for coaches. The NCCP is known for its
high quality training programs and we are excited to work with the Coaching Association of Canada
to develop programs that meet this standard.”
The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is a coach training and certification program
offered in both official languages across the country and is the recognized national standard for
coach training and certification in Canada. NCCP workshops are designed to meet the needs of all
types of coaches, from the first-time coach to the head coach of a national team. Each year, more
than 50,000 coaches take an NCCP workshop and since it began, more than 1 million coaches have
participated in the program, making it one of Canada’s largest adult education programs.
