two universe points separated the teams
aiming for 5th place and those for 7th
place. Both Liquid and TFP defeated
Monster and Psychoplastique respectively
with a score of 8-7. TFP beat Liquid 13-7
to take 5th place. Games for 3rd and 7th
were not played due to a heavy downpour
during the semi-finals match that rendered
the fields un-playable.
On Sunday, weather conditions did
not improve resulting in a challenging the
mixed final. Both teams had seen the finals
in previous years. ONYX was established in
2008 as a power team from Quebec City
that had supported a number of strong
teams such as QUB, QUF, MHUC (3rd
at CUC 2007) and Dis’Chords. It quickly
became one of Quebec’s and Canada’s

history. Established originally as an open
team in 1998, it moved to the mixed
division in 1999 winning both gold and
the Spirit of the Game award. From that
point on, Chaos spent many years in the
top three at CUC including 2000, 2001,
2003, and 2006. In 2002 and 2004, Chaos
represented Canada at WUCC and WUGC.
The team did not compete in 2007 or
2008 as the players moved towards open
and women’s but reunited and mixed in
some young, raw talent to make the home
team at CUC 2009.

taking an early lead. ONYX refused to
accept that and returned the score to an
even 4-4. Zone defence from both sides
was forcing turns with a slippery disc
and a decent breeze to make the mental
challenge of finals that much tougher.
Chaos responded and took back the
lead to move towards a 14-8 win. Final
results were Chaos – Gold, ONYX –
Silver, RIP and Gecko – Bronze. This
capped an incredible year for the mixed
division truly demonstrating its place in
the game of Ultimate. A big thanks goes
out to all the teams as well as all the
organizers of CUC 2009 for making the
tournament great! nullU
