Great War newspaper cuttings reporting on events at that base, together with three letters to the recipient from Islington Air Raid
Precautions Department, all dated in 1945.

Edwin Taffs was gazetted for his Royal Naval Reserve Decoration on 9 November 1909 (London Gazette refers), and was only entitled
to the British War Medal 1914-20 for his services in the Great War (the official roll refers).

Edward Henry Riseborough was born in Ingham, Norfolk, lived at Aylsham, Norfolk, and enlisted at Hertford. Serving with the 2nd
Battalion Coldstream Guards, he was killed in action on 16 September 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on
the Thiepva Memorial. l

John Thomas Batstone was born in Kensington, London. A Clerk by occupation and a member of the London Cadet Battalion, he
attested for service in the Grenadier Guards at Hammersmith on 18 January 1916, aged 18 years, 10 months.
Serving with the 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards, he was killed in action on 10 August 1917, aged 20 years. He was buried in the
Haringhe Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Belgium. He was the son of Mr W.W. and Mrs J. Batstone of 27 Abdale Street, Shepherds Bush,
London. With copied attestation papers and other research.

David Hughes was born in Flint, Flintshire, lived in Todmorden, Yorkshire, and enlisted at Bury, Lancashire. Serving with the 9th
Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, he was killed in action in the Sulva Bay landings in Gallipoli, on 7 August 1915. Having no known
grave, his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey. With some copied research. Additionally entitled to the 1914-15
Star.

Ernest Pullen was born in Stoke D’Abernon, Surrey, and living in Tolworth, enlisted at Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey. He initially served
in the East Surrey Regiment. Serving in the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment, he was killed in action on 21 September 1917, aged 34
years. Pullen was buried in the Coxyde Military Cemetery, Belgium.
He was the son of John and Louisa Pullen and husband of M. M. Pullen of 20 Beaconfield Road, Tolworth, Surbiton, Surrey.
With damaged card box of issue and Record Office forwarding slip addressed to Mrs M. M. Pullen, 2 June 1922.
