Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of David and Isabella Taylor of Yew Cottage, Cambusbarron, Stirling.

May 1915 and served for a time with the Royal Engineers. Serving as a Corporal in the 1st Battalion Somerset Light Infantry, he was
killed in action on 22 April 1918, aged 31 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Pas de
Calais, France. He was the son of Stephen and Sarah Axe, of 410 New Buildings, East Chinnock, Yeovil, and husband of Nellie
Elizabeth Axe, of 4 Stars Lane, Yeovil, Somerset. With forwarding slip for the British War and Victory Medals dated 8 August 1921, and
with copied service details.

John Frederick Simmonds was born in Wellington, Shropshire on 3 June 1887. A Shipwright’s Apprentice by occupation, he entered the
Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in July 1903, being advanced to Boy 1st Class in February 1904. He was rated an Ordinary Seaman in
June 1905 when on Britannia and an Able Seaman in December 1906 when on Isis. Based at Vivid II he was promoted to Leading
Seaman in August 1913 and attained the rank of Petty Officer in March 1917 when on Valiant. He ended the war on the destroyer
Starfish based at Dido. With copied service papers.

was the son of James and Emma Lawn, of 22 Westbury Road, Croydon, and husband of Ethel Mary King (formerly Lawn) of 17
Cresswell Road, South Norwood, London.
