U
pon graduating from high
school Enrique enrolled at
the University of Houston’s
Cullen College of Engineering. He
obtained his bachelor’s degree in
mechanical engineering and short-
ly thereafter he accepted an engi-
neering position with the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers
(USACE), Galveston District at
their Engineering and Planning
Division.
His first assignment with the
Galveston District was as an engi-
neer intern on a rotational training
program, where he experienced
working with different depart-
ments throughout the Galveston
District. During this internship
Enrique received a Department of
the Army Commendation, Special
Act Award for his exceptional per-
formance in coordinating and
preparing the O&M-Manuals for
the La Marque Pumping Station
and Ancillary Drainage Structures
and the Taylors Bayou, Texas, Salt
Water Barrier. He was only the
second engineer intern to receive
such an honor in the history of the
Galveston District.
