TTG Getaway

Got a titbit or two about the travel trade? Then tell TTGina… although she probably knows it already

TTGina Heavy snowfall created quite a

kerfuffle at Heathrow this week, but it also proved rather disruptive for our own Carlie Trotter on Saturday night, when she spotted a group of scantily-clad teenage revellers stranded on a train platform at 2am with no sign of taxis or buses. In true Good Samaritan style, the gallant reporter offered to drive all of the frozen adolescents home, for which we say woolly hats off to her.

While the rest rest of us shivered away at TTG Towers, our Pippa Jacks jetted off to sunny Tobago last week to visit the newly-reopened Magdalena Grand Resort. The island is renowned for its wildlife, but she got a little bit too close to nature on a rainforest tour when she found herself eating live termites straight from the nest. Hardly the “totally

tropical taste” one normally hopes

for in the Caribbean!

With Valentine’s Day almost upon us, I have already contacted Royal Mail to prepare my post-man for the influx of cards and flowers which will doubtless be winging their way to me on Tuesday. But I was interested to read what others hope to receive from their loved ones for Valentine’s in a poll by Holiday Extras. Almost a quarter of those polled by the add- ons company reportedly said “some good loving in the bedroom” would satisfy them this year, instead of fancy treats, which is good news for the cash-strapped among us…

WHERE IN THE WORLD?

This European country is bordered by six states, and a sea to the north. It is the ninth largest country in Europe and the 69th largest in the world, with a population of 38 million. More than six million of its citizens were killed in the Second World War, and it

suffered widespread destruction. Despite this, it managed to preserve much of its cultural wealth, and has 14 heritage sites on the Unesco World Heritage list. It has 70 mountains and a desert in the south, which is one of only five natural deserts in Europe.
