TTG Toolkit Mystery Shopper

Mystery Shopper in Belfast

Our Mystery Shopper visited two agencies in Belfast to request 10 nights in Florida in July for a family of four staying in a self-catering villa, on a budget of £3,500 ideally with theme park tickets included. They then chose two companies from the Google.co.uk search results for ‘Florida villas holidays’

This week’s contenders:

Travel City Direct travelcitydirect.com

First impressions: The site was easy to navigate and it was simple to select holiday criteria. The cost per person and total cost were both clearly displayed. A handy map showed villa location and contacts were easy to see. 10/10

Sales process: The consultant was very attentive and spent time describing the accommodation. Their park knowledge was impressive too. I was also made aware of a Virgin Atlantic sale, which would reduce the cost of the flights. 15/15

Product match: The price quoted without attraction tickets was close to the initial budget but adding theme park passes took it over budget. Attention to detail led me to believe I was being offered the most convenient location at a competitive price. 14/15

Making the sale: It was made clear to me that booking by phone would be practical and easy. Deposit terms were highlighted and the midnight deadline on the flight sale was presented as a bargain I could not ignore. 10/10

98% This villa at Fort Myers offers families space, privacy, all mod cons and close proxity to the theme parks

TTGhas teamed up with React Surveys to simulate a realistic booking process each week – that means a mystery shopper looking for the best deal from agents and operators on the high street, online, on TV or in newspapers. The Mystery Shopper research is carried out on behalf of TTGby React Surveys, and no further details or information can be disclosed. Researchers take into consideration first impression, sales process, product and budget match and extras offered before giving an unbiased opinion of which channel/company they would have booked with on that occasion. We do not claim that the winner is the best in an area or specialist sector, as we may report on competing travel firms in the future. Please note that the aim of Mystery Shopper is not to criticise individual agents or companies, but to promote good sales technique for the benefit of all in the travel trade.
