Julian Mills, Tahiti Tourisme’s UK director, says: “Most Brits fly to Tahiti for two weeks and visit two or three islands. You can use the training course to learn about inter- island transportation – it’s easy to hop between islands with Air Tahiti.” The course also looks at the diversity of the islands, the scenery, the culture and the history of the Polynesian people. Did you know that tattooing began in Polynesia? “Tahiti has dramatic scenery, bringing a different aspect to people’s holidays,” says Mills. “The flora and fauna are spectacular,
and the eight-hour flights to New Zealand and Latin America mean there is no pollu- tion. Tahiti sits in crystal-clear Pacific water.” Along with selling tips for the most-visited islands, the course introduces less populated islands, such as the Tuamotu Islands, which offer a truly remote Pacific experience.
Increased UK focus
Tahiti has recently reopened its UK office, which will be ramping up its marketing activity in the new year. One of the areas in the spotlight will be weddings. Brits used to have to abide by French rules and reside in Tahiti for 30 days before their wedding, but these rules have now been relaxed. “We’re working with UK wedding operators to get Tahiti into their brochures,” Mills adds. “Agents will start to see packages on sale next year.”
Win an iPod Touch
Tahiti is giving away an iPod Touch in a prize draw for all agents who complete its training by the end of January.
