The 140-year-old building, home to the San Juan Capistrano Historical Society’s O’Neill Museum, originally sat behind El Adobe de Capistrano. Built around 1870 by saloon owner Jose Garcia who was murdered in 1886, the home was purchased by Albert Pryor in 1903. His family re- sided there for the next 50 years. The home was donated to the society and moved to Los Rios Street in the ’70s. +V KU PQY ƒPKUJGF KP RGTKQF HWTPKVWTG and houses the city’s historic photos, documents and genealogical records.

Rios Adobe Nestled under mature trees steps from the railroad tracks sits the adobe 10 generations of the Rios Family have called home. The adobe was built of dirt, clay and straw in 1794 by patriarch Feliciano Rios, a Spanish soldier assigned to Saint Ju- niper Serra’s mission-building expedi- tion. He married a Juaneño woman in 1793, built his home and obtained a land grant. Their descendants still live in the home, preserving its character and maintaining memories of family members that have come and gone.

Silvas Adobe This one-room, one-story adobe, once owned by Jose Maria Silvas is one of three original San Juan Capistrano adobes still standing today—the Montañez and Rios are the others. The original structure on the Histori- cal Society’s property, which is also home to the Garcia/Pryor Residence, is currently being restored to its original, 1794 condition by a team of dedicated society volunteers. Sun- dried adobe bricks are being made traditionally using clay-rich dirt found on the historic Los Rios site.
