❙ WL Plastics (WL), a US-based extruder of high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, is to create 40 jobs through a $12 million investment at its plant in Statesboro, Georgia. WL has seven manufacturing facilities in North America, producing pipe in diameters from 0.5 to 54in. Its main focus is on the potable water, wastewater, oil and gas and industrial/mining sectors, but also supplies sectors such as geothermal, landfill and nuclear.

❙ LyondellBasell says that YPFB, Bolivia's state-owned petrochemical company, has chosen its fifth-generation Spheripol polypropylene process technology for Bolivia’s first polymer plant – a 250,000 tonnes/year plant in Tarija. YPFB said it selected the technology because of its economics, track record and broad product slate. LyondellBasell added that Spheripol is already well established in Latin America.

❙ UK-based Polypipe has provided a trading update for the first four months of trading in 2016 – reporting that sales were up one-third to nearly £149m. UK opera- tions, which dominate the figures, saw sales of residen- tial piping systems rise nearly 19% to exceed £70m, while commercial and infrastruc- ture piping rose more than 50% to nearly £61m.

GF to acquire PE piping company in Indonesia
GF Piping Systems, part of Switzerland’s Georg Fischer, has acquired Indonesian pipe manufacturer PT Eurapipe Solutions. Terms of the sale were not revealed. PT Eurapipe, based in
Karawang near Jakarta, makes polyethylene (PE) pipes and fittings and is a leading supplier to the mining business and other water related market segments. In 2015, it generated sales of around $20m with a workforce of approximately 100 people. GF said that the acquisition
would strengthen its position in South East Asia, in line with its strategy to expand in growth

Skipper boosts PVC pipe capacity
Indian PVC pipe manufacturer Skipper has begun trial production at a new plant in Sikandrabad, near New Delhi in northern India. The plant’s installed
capacity of 6,000 tonnes/year will be used to make plumbing and agriculture pipe. It takes the company’s total PVC pipe capacity to 35,000 tonnes/year. The unit will cater to local
demand. Devesh Bansal, managing
director of Skipper, said: “Having crossed gross revenue of R1000 crores ($149m) in the first nine months of operations, the new plant in Uttar Pradesh is our first step towards capacity expansion in 2016,” he said. “Our objective is to install facilities across India.” Skipper already has three
PVC pipe plants – in West Bengal, Gujarat and Assam – and plans to commission a fifth plant in Hyderabad. At the same time, the
company has won new orders worth around R 500 crores ($74m) in its Engineering & Infrastructure business segments, and a first export order from Egypt. ❙

Ply Gem spends $2m, adds 76 jobs
US-based Ply Gem Windows is to invest nearly $2m to expand manufacturing of PVC windows at its plant in Rocky Mount, Virginia – creating 76 jobs in the process. The company produces a

range of windows and patio doors, as well as vinyl and aluminium siding, cellular PVC trim and mouldings and vinyl fencing. Ply Gem is the largest
employer in Franklin County,
according to state governor Terry McAuliffe. The company increased
