Meliá Hotels International is to open three properties – in Africa, the Indian Ocean and Central Asia.

Described as the “first state-of-

the-art sustainable hotel” from the brand, the Meliá Serengeti Lodge, Tanzania, will open in June 2017, 45 minutes from Seronera airport in the Serengeti National Park. Set in a secluded location, it will

overlook the annual migration of one million wildebeest, lions, leopards and zebras. The property will have 50

rooms – 25 Meliá Forest rooms, 23 Meliá Hills rooms and two Serengeti Suites. The lounges and restaurants

will overlook terraces around an infinity pool with pool bar and barbecue patios. The hotel has been designed

with “an intelligent approach to insulation and ventilation” and building materials will be chosen based on their carbon footprint. Gabriel Escarrer, vice-chairman

and chief executive of Meliá Hotels International, said: “Meliá Serengeti Lodge is an opportunity to respond to the challenge of offering the ‘real’ African experience that all travellers desire. “We are also excited to launch

our first 100% sustainable hotel.” Gran Meliá Maldives in

Kalhudiyafushi, Thaa atoll, will have 95 private villas, three restaurants, a bar and cafe, a spa, a leisure centre and shops, and is due to open in October 2017.

Meliá Almaty in Kazakhstan

will open in 2018 with 250 rooms, including 50 suites and junior suites. Located in a winter sports haven, it will be the group’s first

hotel in Kazakhstan. melia.com/travelagents
