Seven industry legends enter the Hall of Fame

Leading figures from the travel and hospitality sectors were honoured at the British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame recently.

The event, organised by Travel Weekly

and sister title The Caterer, took place at The Dorchester hotel in London and was presented by Travel Weekly Group chairman Clive Jacobs and television and radio personality Katie Derham. Inductees from the travel industry were

Peter Stephens, founder of DialAFlight owner Lotus Group; Manfredi Lefebvre, chairman of Silversea Cruises; and Chris Photi, head of travel and leisure at accountancy firm White Hart Associates. They were honoured on the night alongside

four inductees from the hospitality sector: the ‘godfathers of British cuisine’ Michel and Albert Roux; Alastair Storey of food services operator WSH; and Robin Hutson of Lime Wood Group and Home Grown Hotels. Jacobs, who was the youngest inductee to

the Hall of Fame in 2003, said: “I am delighted these seven outstanding individuals accepted our invitation to be inducted into the Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame. “There is no greater honour within our industries, and our 2016 inductees join a list of members who have all achieved outstanding commercial success and shown

inspirational leadership in the industry sectors they serve.” In addition to the inductees into the Hall

of Fame, three awards were presented at the ceremony. The Business Achievement Award went to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, the Young Entrepreneur Award went to Harry Hastings, co-founder and joint managing director of Ocean Holidays, and Tom Axe of Benugo was named Young Manager of the Year. Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “We are thrilled to be receiving this award. It is a fantastic accolade and tops another strong year for us. “Jet2.com had an exceptional summer

last year, carrying 4.53 million passengers. This year is set to be our biggest yet with further route expansion and the introduction of the first of our 30 new, next-generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft. “To be recognised by the industry for our

achievements in providing friendly low fares and package holidays you can trust is a real honour.” Young Entrepreneur winner Hastings said:

“My ambition right now is to double the size of the Ocean Holidays group by 2020 and be one of the leading long-haul tour operators in the UK. I hope one day I will not only be a successful leader of our business but perhaps, too, of our amazing travel industry.”
