He’s better known in the industry for putting up shop fascias than road signs. But Miles Morgan’s second business, Amazing Alpacas, has hit the headlines for securing the UK’s first ‘alpacas crossing’ road sign.

Travel in the southwest, decided to take action with business partners and farmers Peter and Glenda Stoneman after problems getting the animals across the busy B4235 between Chepstow and Usk in Monmouthshire. The stud males have to be taken
across the busy road to breed with the female herd. Morgan said: “Between now and September we breed the alpacas every weekend and they have to cross the road to get to the other part of the farm. “I jokingly suggested we should get a sign up. The cars go like bats out of hell but the traffic is the last thing on the minds of the alpacas.” The story caused quite a stir
with local media, which picked up on the story and featured Miles’ wife and son walking
two alpacas. Morgan applied for the sign in the autumn, which was put up at a cost of £175 last month. He had hoped the sign would

have a picture of an alpaca on it – but only pictures of certain animals such as deer are allowed for road signs. Morgan has owned and bred alpacas since 2011.

Independence of the Seas to host Hays IG conference
Hays Travel Independence Group will host its annual conference on board Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas from October 23-26. All guests will have an all-inclusive package and the conference will include external speakers, ‘match-making’ sessions and a gala dinner.
Spear Travels acquires Broads Travel Group
Spear Travels has acquired the Broads Travel Group in the Midlands for an undisclosed sum. The move brings its total number of shops to 13. All 16 staff will be retained. Broads Travel Group has two shops, in Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield, and a separate business travel centre, none of which will be rebranded.
Leger Holidays hires Stuart to head commercial team
Leger Holidays has appointed Alex Stuart as head of commercial. Stuart joins from Virgin Holidays. He has previously held senior roles at Tui, Thomas Cook and James Villa Holidays. He will be building a new commercial team as the company looks to increase the range of holidays available through the trade.
