First Energy Efficiency Strategy for Wales
n response to the Welsh Government’s first Energy Efficiency Strategy announced on February 23rd, Stewart Clements, Director of the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council, HHIC said he was thrilled that the Welsh Government is “placing this important topic at the heart of their administration”. Continues Clements: “According to figures from DCLG, 30% of Welsh EPCs since 2008 have been Bands E,F and G,

highlighting that there is a very real need to improve energy efficiency across the Welsh housing stock and making the need for this strategy all the more vital.” The strategy recognises that ‘one size will not fit all’ and that different groups will require different
approaches. “It also has the provision to allow a range of financial support mechanisms to be
developed; which I believe will help ensure its success,” adds Clements. “As an industry we
welcome the opportunity to work more closely with the Welsh Government in taking their strategy, implementing it and making the benefits a reality for the Welsh people.”

J S Wright wins £27m project to fit out the UK’s tallest brick residential tower
uilding services provider J S Wright is to fit out the luxury Keybridge development in Vauxhall, South London – Britain’s tallest brick residential tower after securing its biggest-ever deal. The 126-year-old company, which has its headquarters in Birmingham, has won a contract worth more than £27m for the work.

A joint venture between housing developers Mount Anvil and Fabrica, the 441-home regeneration scheme will incorporate two brick apartment blocks, one of which at 128 metres high will be the tallest in the UK.
Keybridge is being built on the site of former Keybridge House, the former concrete BT telephone exchange named by critics as “London’s ugliest building”.

mie Shuttleworth has been appointed Global Head of Sustainability by international multi-disciplinary engineer Cundall. Shuttleworth joins Cundall from Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd where she was Head of Sustainability.
Based in the Hong Kong office, Amie will focus on developing Cundall's global sustainability strategy whilst further advancing the strengths of Cundall's sustainability consulting services in Hong Kong, Asia Pacific and the rest of the world.
8-storey Keybridge House and 37-storey Keybridge Lofts with the support of its electrical partner Wilton Electrics. The company will fit out all the homes, ranging from studios to three- bed apartments, with underfloor heating and ventilation services, hot and cold water services, sanitary ware, soil and waste services and domestic sprinklers.
It will also design and build an energy centre and chilled water and boosted cold water plant rooms, as well as install a rainwater harvesting system, car park ventilation, and a services metering and control system.
Work will begin on site in July 2016 with completion scheduled for December 2018.

MWH appointed as part of £120m six‐year deal with Scottish Water
WH has been appointed by Scottish Water as part of a joint venture to provide technical consultancy support in the 2015- 2021 investment programme. MWH has partnered with Mott MacDonald for the contract to form the joint venture m2. The contract, worth £120m over six years, will be divided between m2, and a second joint venture, ARC.

m2 was chosen by Scottish Water after a rigorous procurement process to form part of a framework of consultancy contractors. It will support Scottish Water and its partners in the delivery of construction and maintenance projects for the benefit of customers over the next six years. m2 will provide consultative expertise spanning feasibility studies, modelling and project management. The 2015-2021 investment programme will see Scottish Water improve and maintain its existing assets, including pipes, pumping stations and water treatment works.
BESA announces death of past President and SFG20 pioneer T
he death has been
announced, at the age of 66, of Mike McCloskey, a former President of the Building Engineering Services Association (the BESA).
After serving a craft apprenticeship with Hope's Heating and
Engineering, Mr McCloskey spent 30 years with national contractor Lorne Stewart Plc – latterly as Managing Director of the company's maintenance division – and since 2004, as a director of south London- based Argent FM.
He became a member of the uIndustry stalwart, Mike McClaskey.

contract for Briggs & Forrester
riggs and Forrester Engineering Services Ltd has won the
contract to provide the installation and
commission of M&E and public health systems at Rocester School,
Staffordshire. The firm will work alongside Seddon to deliver the project. The facility joins two existing schools, Dove First School and Ryecroft Middle School, under one roof in a new energy-efficient facility. Briggs & Forrester will provide building services installation including mixed mode ventilation, heating via radiant panels, sprinklers, lighting, small power, fire alarms and security systems with controls to ensure optimum use of energy. Briggs & Forrester has also won the contract to design and deliver the M&E installation for Cranfield University Aerospace Integration Research Centre project.
