global-warming-potential Solstice ze refrigerant is being used in a supermarket application that combines several systems to improve energy efficiency. Solstice ze is being combined with carbon dioxide, also known as R-744, in a supermarket cascade system delivering heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration in one low-carbon solution.

Italian refrigeration specialist, Tecnologie del freddo (TDF), worked with Honeywell to design a Solstice ze and R-744 cascade system which meets all of the cooling, heating and air conditioning needs of a new Unes/U2 supermarket in Parma, Italy. It replaces conventional boiler and air conditioning units, using a heat exchanger to capture the energy generated by the Solstice ze cooling system to heat the store, provide hot water, and cool the store in the summer. The system is expected to reduce power supply by 45kW and achieve energy savings of approximately 35 per cent per year, compared with stores with three separate cooling, heating and air conditioning systems.

The Parma U2 store will be able to reduce capital outlay and energy costs due to both the efficiency of the cooling system and its ability to drive heating and air conditioning at the store.
“Supermarket owners are looking for solutions like Honeywell’s Solstice ze to allow them to operate their system beyond 2020 in compliance with upcoming changes in F-Gas regulation,” said Robert Kebby, Global Marketing Manager of commercial refrigeration at Honeywell Fluorine Products. “We anticipate that many design innovations linked to the use of Solstice ze will arise as customers seek out the right solutions for the supermarket sector that meet their environmental and operational requirements.”
cooling, heating and air conditioning needs of the store at reduced cost and is a template for lower carbon emissions and a more sustainable solution for our sector. It also future- proofs our investment beyond the change in F-Gas Regulation,” said Dr. Gianfranco Iannace, Arch. Fabio Gabanella, Unes Supermarket.
Solstice ze is non-ozone-depleting, has a global warming potential of less than 1 and complies with the European F-Gas regulation which is designed to reduce the global warming impacts of fluorinated refrigerants and other materials. It also benefits from being mildly flammable according to ASHRAE class 2L and being nonflammable below 30°C. Solstice ze is ‘safer in use’ than alternatives such as hydrocarbons and ammonia, which are either extremely flammable or highly toxic.

Remeha delivers savings and reliability at Sir William Romney School
F
our Remeha Gas 210 Eco Pro 5-section condensing boilers and a Remeha unvented 500 litre hot water cylinder have been installed at Sir William Romney’s School in Tetbury.
When the existing boilers failed, swift action was required to restore the heating and hot water service before the start of the new term. The decision was taken to replace and upgrade all the existing plant and ancillary equipment. Gloucester-based Hewer Facilities Management Ltd secured the contract and, working with the project designer and the school’s building manager, achieved a heating system which has at its heart four Remeha Gas 210 Eco Pro 5- section 160kW boilers, supported by a Remeha unvented 500 litre hot water cylinder to meet the hot water demand. Glenn Fry of Hewer FM said: “The specification was high profile with reliability, efficiency and high performance three essential requirements for this project. It was for this reason that the Remeha boilers and unvented calorifier were specified at Sir William Romney’s School.” The refurbished heating system includes a Building Management System control with zoned internal sensors to maximise the energy savings from the new Remeha boilers. The control system also enables remote access via an iPad for monitoring and adjustment.
Despite the evolving nature of the project, which included the removal of newly-discovered asbestos, the new heating system was successfully installed within the tight refurbishment schedule and was fully operational ahead of the start of the new term.
Lawrence Halton, Building Manager at Sir William Romney’s School said: “We are extremely pleased with our new, highly reliable heating system. The team did a great job, working hard to complete the installation within the narrow timeframe with no disruption to the existing services. Now we are looking forward to the added benefit of future energy savings, conservatively estimated to be in the region of 25 per cent upwards.”
The project team consisted of Hewer FM Ltd, Ashfield Electrical Services (South West) Ltd and Original Chimney Centres Ltd.

Biomass heang system for 14th century manor
raze.com, which started life as a mail order healthy snacking box and has now moved in-store and to the US, has experienced major expansion following the development of a purpose-built factory in Hayes. With state-of-the-art at its core, plumbing, heating and drainage requirements had to be leading-edge, and so Geberit's pressing solution, Mapress, played a major role in the factory's construction.
G
Geberit's pipework was specified after Graze team members, Neil Thompson and Jason Low took part in a ‘pressing' initiative, through merchants, BSS, in Reading. Armed with a set of Mapress fittings and tools, the duo never looked
backed thanks to the simple process of fitting Geberit's press-fit solution together.
Following extensive training with Paul King from Geberit, who also helped Graze choose the right products for the building, Graze's installers have found Mapress extremely easy to use. "Using Mapress is clean, quick and tidy, with no mess, perfect for a factory as sleek as Graze's," said installer, Ross McClelland.
Geberit HDPE is also used for all drainage on site, a sustainable and safe product that does not leak. Geberit HDPE is made from a compound which has no environmental impact and is fusion welded, meaning no need for hot

works. Geberit's Duofix frames for wall- hung WCs and Geberit Duofix for wall-hung urinals are also fitted in the factory's toilet blocks.
Geberit's involvement with this project shows its credentials in meeting the needs of modern manufacturing facilities and the installers that work in them.

pecialist pipework technology from Flexenergy has been used to upgrade the heating system at Headstone Manor, a 14th century moated manor house which was formerly the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury and which forms part of the Headstone Manor Museum.
S
The manor is a Grade I listed building, which is now under the control of Harrow London Borough Council. Restoration projects and redevelopment of the site will be carried out over a number of years and a recent project involved the renewal of the heating system in the 16th century Grade II* Tithe Barn.
The heating system was previously by all electric storage type units. The old system had fallen into disrepair, was expensive to run and underperforming. With no natural gas supply to the site, biomass boilers and a district heating network appealed to the Council's sustainable aspirations, which was made more appealing by the Government's Renewable Heat Incentive scheme.
