PRODUCTS TECHNOLOGY FILE HYGIENIC PUMPS

For when hygiene, resistance to chemical agents and gentle handling of delicate ingredients is needed, Michael Smith Engineers offers the compact Inoxpa PROLAC HCP hygienic centrifugal pumps. Available in 316L stainless steel and EHEDG certified, these close-coupled centrifugal pumps provide flow rates up to 220m3

/hour, maximum differential

pressure (heads) up to 140m, and maximum system pressures of 16 bar. As standard, these feature a single internal hygienic mechanical seal, a stationary face of carbon, a rotating face of silicon carbide and gaskets in EPDM. CIP (clean-in-place) and SIP (steam-in-place) is possible without the need to dismantle the pumps. Higher specification options are also

available – including double mechanical seals, gaskets and seals to FDA standards, different types of connection options for positioning flexibility, heating jackets, ATEX rated versions and hardened face seal options. The pumps are particularly suitable

for main process pumping duties in the dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

ROTARY LATCH FEATURES DUAL TRIGGER ACTUATION

New to Southco’s rotary latching solutions line is the R4-10 Rotary Latch with Dual Trigger. The smallest latch in the range, this features multiple points of actuation, allowing the latch to be triggered by two independent actuators. As a result, it can be used for doors and panels which require actuation from multiple positions – for example, it facilitates access when entering or exiting through a door, or when accessing a larger panel or

piece of equipment from two separate points. Constructed from corrosion- resistant steel, this is available with an integrated bumper feature and single or two-stage latching. The latch can also be combined with Southco’s line of mechanical and electronic actuators and cables for a complete rotary latching system.

PRESS STOPPERS PROTECT AGAINST ARCING FAULTS

10,000˚C, heating and expanding the air within an enclosure and creating a rise in pressure which can exceed its design parameters, leading to catastrophic failure. Internal short circuits which

An arcing fault in the main or distribution busbars can be highly destructive. When an arc between phases occurs, not only is a huge amount of energy released but the spark can reach temperatures of more than

can lead to arcs are typically the result of hot spots, tracking across insulation material, animals or vermin entering into the assembly, loose parts or human error. So, all electrical assemblies

under IEC/TR 61641 must be designed to take all necessary steps to withstand a specified short circuit current that is liable

to result in internal arc fault conditions. Pressure stoppers for roof plates provide pressure relief during arc fault, and Rittal’s pressure stoppers convert the IP55 roof plate for Ri4Power enclosures into a roof plate with pressure relief function. This modification only takes minutes and can be retro-fitted on site if necessary. The pressure relief stoppers

have been used in low voltage applications up to 690V 50kA.

ENABLING THE CONNECTED ENTERPRISE WATERPROOF SWITCHES

Adding more devices and connections can make machines and systems more complex. However, Rockwell Automation has expanded its Integrated Architecture portfolio to reduce complexity while helping users meet future capacity and throughput needs as they design systems for a Connected Enterprise. The portfolio includes a new next-generation Allen-Bradley controller, graphic

terminal, servo drive and distributed I/O system, as well as the latest release of the Rockwell Software Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk software offerings. The Studio 5000 software includes three new applications: Studio 5000 Architect,

Studio 5000 View Designer and Application Code Manager. These applications, along with the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application, bring more functionality together into one environment to simplify and speed system development. Also available are the latest releases of FactoryTalk ViewPoint Mobile software and FactoryTalk VantagePoint Mobile software. The Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 5580 controller, meanwhile, provides up to 45%

more application capacity and includes an embedded 1-gigabit Ethernet port to support high-performance communications, I/O and applications with up to 256 axes of motion. The new port and additional capacity cuts the amount of control and communications hardware required. Also available is the Allen-Bradley Kinetix 5700 servo drive, a single-platform alternative to using multiple servo drives for large custom machines with high axis-count and power requirements. In addition, the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 5069 Distributed Compact I/O system with

two 1-gigabit Ethernet ports scans 10 times faster than previous versions for greater productivity. The system can connect to as many as 31 modules without the need to expand. The Allen-Bradley PanelView 5500 graphic terminal, meanwhile, provides a modern design and enhanced integration with Logix controllers using the Studio 5000 View Designer application. This integration improves programming efficiency, the company explains.

44 DEC/JAN 2016 | DESIGN SOLUTIONS

New from CHERRY Industrial Solutions are the IP65 rated KD and KC series of round rocker switches, and the KF switch series for products requiring a pushbutton solution. Designed to fit a

panel cut-out of 20.20mm diameter, the KC series switches are available with a black actuator and housing for the non-lighted version and red actuator with black housing and red lens for the illuminated version. This series of single-pole, single-throw (SPST) function switches offers multiple termination options. The KD series switches are available in two versions: DPST

(double pole, single throw) and DPDT (double pole, double throw). Featuring snap-in mounting to fit the same aperture sizes as the KC series, they can be supplied as illuminated or non-lighted versions and are rated for DC and AC loads. For applications requiring a round pushbutton switch, the

KF series is offered in five versions, both SPST and DPST, and both types of switch can be supplied lit and unlit as required. Maintained-action and momentary switching is a further option, and these have quick-connect 4.76mm terminals. Typical applications include on and off-road vehicles,

industrial handling and agricultural equipment, medical systems, and even powered garden tools, lawnmowers and garden sprayers.
