EMERGENCY STOP AND RESET BUTTONS
New from Murrelektronik is a range of emergency stop and reset buttons with standard M12 ports so they can be integrated into installations with standard M12 cables. This port makes the control devices a ‘Plug & Play’ safety solution for a wide variety of machines and systems. Applications range from those
with basic functions all the way up to sophisticated, high-end ones, the company explains. Installations with control devices – like safety fences, or workstations in decentralized locations – will have the most demand for these buttons. The standard models are just
40mm wide, making them suitable for connections to standard aluminium profiles. The wider 72mm emergency stop buttons are available with a light ring as well as a protective collar to prevent accidental triggering.

INDUSTRIAL CONTROLLERS
NI has introduced a family of three new industrial controllers that address the complex requirements of advanced Internet of Things (IoT) applications. According to the company, the controllers feature 5th generation Intel Core processors, rugged packaging, built-in I/O and extensive connectivity options, so that machine builders and system designers can eliminate the need for separate subsystems within complex machines and consolidate functionality into a single controller. It is possible to simplify system complexity, decrease system cost and reduce overall footprint by integrating different types of I/O, including vision and motion, control and processing into a single, high-performance controller, such as the newly released IC-3173. Key features of the controllers include powerful processing
thanks to dual-core Intel i7 processors combined with user- programmable Xilinx Kintex-7 160T FPGAs for advanced signal and image processing, customisable digital I/O and high-speed closed-loop control. Extensive connectivity is provided through five Gigabit Ethernet ports, four of which include power over Ethernet (PoE) support and two full-bandwidth controlled USB 3.0 ports for connecting to and processing images from multiple USB3 Vision and GigE Vision cameras simultaneously. These also offer support for EtherCAT Master, Ethernet/IP, RS232/RS485, Modbus serial and Modbus/TCP to communicate with other devices such as PLCs and operator interfaces. Full LabVIEW system design software support for customising control algorithms, performing image processing and executing advanced analytics is also included.

POWERLINK has been integrated into Yaskawa’s DX200 robot controller, making it possible to seamlessly incorporate Motoman robots into machine automation systems, the company explains. The DX200 is a high- performance robot controller for Yaskawa Motoman robots. It enables synchronous control of up to eight robots or 72 axes and is equipped with a built-in safety controller in accordance with PL d / Cat. 3 for up to 32 user-defined safety areas and up to 16 different tools. With Motoman Sync, the company also offers the possibility of programming robots in a familiar
IEC 61131 environment, reduced commissioning times and better clock accuracy. Integration in a POWERLINK network results in additional benefits such as increased productivity. In addition, machines or plants can be designed more flexibly.
A separate operator terminal for robots is not needed since all data required for operation and diagnostics can be displayed and modified on the machine’s main terminal.

DISENTANGLING AND FEEDING EQUIPMENT
Now available from R. A. Rodriguez is the MAFU Automation disentangling and feeding equipment. Used throughout Europe, the systems allow users to sort, feed and accurately place non-sensitive parts regardless of their size, material or geometry. With the disentangling system, bulk goods such as springs, pins and bent- wire parts are fed into a drum via a funnel and its rotation allows parts to be
gently disentangled and released to the outlet. A variety of hopper systems are available for bulk feeding and there is a wide choice of different drum designs and sizes to suit the application. These include antistatic, sieve and acrylic options.
After disentangling, the individual parts are released onto a choice of patented separation systems
according to the nature of the product and how it is to be further processed. An additional benefit is the ability for one disentangling system to work with multiple tracks – up to 40 tracks have been installed for a European customer. The tracks can also be equipped with a variety of sensors and image processing systems for process and quality control.

ULTRA-COMPACT I/O SYSTEM LAUNCHED
An ultra-compact modular slice I/O system – the XN300 I/O – has been launched by Eaton. This features CANopen connectivity, plug-in connector technology and high channel
density. The XN300 system allows the implementation of compact yet highly customisable system solutions, especially when used with the company’s HMI/PLC products. In addition, because of the intelligent functionality of the modules, in many applications fewer are needed. XN300 modules have a practical
assembly system that, in conjunction with their plug-in connectors, allows I/O stations with sensors and actuators to be pre-assembled. According to the company, this combination of features means that Eaton’s ultra-slim XN300 modular slice I/O system makes it possible for machine builders to produce machines that are simpler, more compact and more cost effective. In addition, the smart functionality of
the XN300 modules offers opportunities for machine builders to make cost savings, the company claims. For example, groups of digital outputs can share switching, fusing and power supply arrangements. Some digital input units in the range have integrated counting functions, and some types of analogue input module offer extra functions, including temperature measurement, cold junction compensation and the generation of reference voltages. Another benefit is that it can
be installed very quickly. Further, because the modules feature plug-in connectors, users need only push stripped wire ends into the connector plugs, or plug in pre-wired connectors, and the system is ready for use. Modules can also be replaced or added quickly and easily during maintenance. Despite the large number of connections involved, the design of the system makes it easy to use. The mounting clips are readily accessible even when the modules are installed and the modules can be individually labelled.
