afternoon. We wanted to take a different route back, and as I recall, we opted to take the B line. We were looking to make a few stops for photos, but the line is largely in a cut and long shadows precluded photography. At New York Penn, a few of our group


opted to hop on Amtrak to Philadelphia to expedite the ride home (they had actually not heeded our warning that the trip could run late and we might not make it back in time for the last train to Claymont — thus the departure from Marcus Hook that morning — and had parked at Claymont). Most of us, however,


opted for combination back to Marcus


the NJT/SEPTA Hook.


Arrival back at the Hook was after dark, but it certainly was a memorable trip to get a hot dog.


Reach the Beach by Subway Our 1995 trip can be replicated today,


should one desire (although it is very doubtful you’d get any cab rides). The only difference is SEPTA service into Delaware is much improved, so you could begin the trip at Claymont or Wilmington without fear of being stranded by no evening service. 30th Street Station is as impressive as ever, and the Stillwell Avenue subway station has been vastly improved. Alas, New York Penn Station remains the subterranean rat’s nest that it has always been. It would still be a fun trip in the summer.
