USA Shooting National Championships: Young Guns Rise with Hopes of Junior World Team Status
During the 10-day USA Shooting National Championships, plen-
ty of headlines were made as the nation’s best double-barreled competitors shotoff against one another in Colorado Springs. 6RPH RI WKH VWDQGRXW KHDGOLQHV LQFOXGHG ZDWFKLQJ HLJKW À UVW time champions take to the podium, Brian Burrows’ continued domination of Men’s Trap with his third title in four years, a junior uprising throughout all disciplines, the trap strength showcased by $UNDQVDV DQG &DOLIRUQLD VKRRWHUV DQG À QDOO\ WKH DSSRLQWPHQW RI four new National Team and two new National Junior Team mem- bers. Not much was at stake for the open-class competitors with Nationals not serving as a selection match for upcoming interna- tional competition, but watching the depth of the U.S. shotgun pro- gram battle it out against the Rocky Mountain backdrop still made for great theater. With Nationals serving as part one of the tryout to earn Ju-
nior World Team selection, that motivation led to several junior standout performances in the Junior and Open ranks.
