Rifl e & Pistol National Championship Showcases Both Veteran & Youth Talent

Olympi- ans Matt Emmons (Browns Mills, New Jersey) and Keith Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) were two of the athletes grabbing the headlines during the week-
long affair. Joining them was Sarah Beard (Danville, Indiana) with another bril- liant Nationals showing. Equally impressive were the performances by two Junior competitors in Vir- JLQLD 7KUDVKHU 6SULQJÀ HOG Virginia) and Carson Saabye (Larkspur, Colorado). Emmons showcased his readiness in pursuit of a fourth-straight Olympic med- al by winning national titles
in Men’s Three-Position and 3URQH 5LÁ H EHKLQG VRPH big scores. Sanderson won his sixth National title since 2004. Beard’s three QHZ PHGDOV LQ ULÁ H DGGHG WR D À YH \HDU PHGDO KDXO DW Nationals, that now includes 15 since 2011, including seven national titles. The eighteen-year-old Thrasher put her stamp on the Championships as well with D À YH PHGDO SHUIRUPDQFH
including a gold medal in the Junior Three-Position 5LÁ H HYHQW Overshadowing it all
was 13-year-old Saabye, a girl just three years into the sport and in the eighth grade. Never before had someone so young earned a spot on USA Shooting’s National Team, but that’s exactly what she did in Women’s Air Pistol.
