Stock Show Passes and Saddles

By Ellen H. Brisendine, ehbrisendine@tscra.org O

UR COVER THIS MONTH COMES FROM THE FORT WORTH STOCK SHOW AND RODEO (FWSSR). We are running this rodeo shot to remind TSCRA members

to look in this issue for the form to order free grounds passes for the FWSSR. Our friends at the Stock Show are extending this generous offer to mem-

bers once again: Free admittance to the Stock Show grounds for the duration of the event, Jan. 15 to Feb. 6. Use the form in the magazine, or go to www.tscra.org and click on the

FWSSR logo to order passes. You can also order tickets to the wildly popular ranch rodeo and Saturday

night party. Ranch rodeo tickets will sell out, so be quick to order. November is the issue in which we focus on ranch horses. Kristin Hawkins

provides a rundown on saddle fi t, giving tips on making the ride better for the horse and safer for the rider. She and TSCRA Special Ranger Wayne Good- man developed a photo story to show you where to mark your saddle with an identifi er that might help to return it to you in case of theft. Larry Gray, our executive director law enforcement and theft prevention,

says he often stops by pawnshops in his travels. If there is a saddle in the shop, he will look in certain places on the saddle to see if an owner marked it with his or her driver’s license number. If so, he follows up with that owner to see if the saddle had been stolen. You worked hard to fi nd the right saddle. A few minutes with a good marker may help you keep it. This month we celebrate Thanksgiving in the U.S. This uniquely American

holiday ignores religious, political and ethnic lines. Americans are called to pause and remember the freedom in which we live and the price paid, over and again, for that liberty. In this Thanksgiving month, please allow me to say thank you to the

men and women who have served this country and to those who continue to volunteer to protect our freedom.
