FEATURE LIFT TRUCKS

REACH STACKERS HANDLE containers more cost effectively

A combination of competitive operating costs, ease of maintenance and convenience at the man and machine interface makes new Terex reach stackers efficient overall packages

being developed by international teams. In this way the combined expertise of TPS is being incorporated into the new machines. The first example is the newly launched Liftace 5-31 reach stacker.”

The Liftace 5-31 reach stacker is the first of the new generation of lift trucks from Terex Port Solutions combining cost effectiveness with simple maintenance and ergonomic operation

T

erex Port Solutions (TPS) has launched its new generation Liftace

5-31 reach stacker which will be followed by the introduction of four Stackace empty container handlers. The new products combine the strengths of proven TPS technology and the two legacy Terex brands of PPM and Fantuzzi with innovative features. Cost-effective, service friendly and ergonomic, the machines offer low fuel consumption, simple maintenance and an ergonomic cab design.

FAST AND PRECISE STACKING With a wheelbase of 6,200 mm the Liftace 5-31 reach stacker can stack up to five high-cube (9‘6‘‘) containers in the first row with typical load configurations of 45 t in the first row, 31 t in the second and 15 t in the third. The robust design incorporates an

advanced boom design while its inherent rigidity and increased radius facilitate more accurate and faster operation.

SAFE AND PRODUCTIVE WORKING The cab was developed following cooperation with drivers and experts in ergonomics. The operator friendly design makes for safe, comfortable and productive operation. Offering low interior noise level and an excellent view, it can be manually adjusted as standard for service access and an optional powered sliding cab is also available. The

redesigned, intuitive control and visualisation system with an ergonomic joystick and 7 inch graphic display, help to provide safe operation. TPS offers a variety of options including reversing sensors and a camera system.

LOWER OPERATING COSTS The design of the Liftace 5-31 reach stacker has been driven by lower operating costs compared to previous models. The interplay of engine and gearbox with the drive axle together with the low overall weight of the Liftace 5-31 reach stacker and good load distribution of its chassis make for considerably reduced tyre wear. The modern drive train combined with the load sensitive hydraulic system reduces fuel consumption which is further improved by its EcoPower operating mode. The lighting system features LED technology as standard.

MORE PRODUCTIVE CONTAINER HANDLING The new TPS lift trucks help terminal operators to handle containers even more cost effectively in an increasingly competitive market.

“The mixture of competitive operating costs, ease of maintenance and convenience at the man and machine interface makes the new machines efficient overall packages,” says vice president & managing director Klaus Peter Hoffmann. “All Terex lift trucks are

COMBINATION OF EXPERTISE In the development of the lift trucks TPS has combined modules from its own production with high quality components from renowned suppliers. A standard key component of the Liftace reach stacker is the proprietary lightweight and robust Terex top pick spreader. The machine is available with wide top pick (WTP) or piggyback spreaders. For the engines TPS relies on technology from Volvo and Cummins which meet the EPA Tier 4 final (EU Stage IV) emission standard and are specifically tuned to the Dana TE30 gearbox designed for lift trucks.

EASE OF MAINTENANCE TPS has reduced maintenance requirements and increased the uptime of its reach stackers through a combination of durable components, longer maintenance intervals and better access to maintenance points. “Our customers all over the world are

always telling us how important uptime is to them,” explains Oliver Küpper, general manager at the Terex facility in Montceau-les-Mines, France. “This is why we have designed the

Terex Liftace reach stacker for ease of maintenance and repair so that the machine is quickly operational again. Additionally, when expert assistance is needed our network of service centres and experienced distributors helps to keep the machine up and operational.”

GLOBAL CENTRE OF COMPETENCE TPS has established a global centre of competence for reach stacker activities at Montceau-les-Mines, also a training centre for drivers and service technicians. “Our concept now envisages the

successive launch of additional models,” concludes Küpper. “We will not take any machine off the market before an adequate successor is ready.”
