HIGHLY EFFICIENT MACHINING IN 5 AXES OF MOTION K


ao Fong Machinery (KAFO) has developed a gantry-type machining centre for large and/or heavy workpieces. Available in the UK from sole agent TDT Technology the range comprises KG (three-axis) and KG5A (five-axis) series machines with the latter featuring a full A/C-axis tilting and rotating head to facilitate highly efficient machining operations in five axes of motion. The two-axis milling head which offers ±105° in the A-axis and ±200° in the C-axis is manufactured by Kessler of Germany and representative of the high quality components deployed throughout the series. For example, Hiwin C3 class ballscrews are featured on the machines with dual screw types in the X and Z axes and single screw in the Y-axis. Here, an innovative ballscrew cooling system is deployed to negate thermal discrepancies and promote dynamic performance. The main X, Y and Z axes feature INA


linear guideways from Schaeffler. These are designed to deliver high rigidity while machine motion is taking place. To ensure positioning accuracy of


±0.015 mm and repeatability of ±0.01, the use of Heidenhain linear scales and closed loop control is offered in X, Y and Z so that customers can rest assured of precision-machined workpieces.


SHOPFLOOR DATA DISPLAY PLATFORM


Global Shop Solutions’ platform TrueView is designed to display job dispatch data on large TV monitors mounted on shop floor walls. It promises to modernise the job dispatch process and help manufacturers improve production times. “Traditionally, manufacturers post paper dispatch reports on bulletin boards to tell machinists what they should be working on and which jobs are lined up in the queue,” says president Dusty Alexander. “With our TrueView data display product workers can view the data on a TV monitor without leaving their workcenters to track down the information. It saves time, cuts down on paper and the data is current.” Modernising your shop floor doesn’t require new hardware or software – only a large-screen TV and a web browser. Data is refreshed every 10 minutes, giving shop floor personnel the most current information available. Users can select between different messaging and colour-coding options.

Rapid traverse rates are 20 m/min in the three main axes, either direct driven or via gearbox while acceleration is 4 m/s². The BT50, 25/30 kW spindle offers speeds up to 8000 rpm and torque up to 420 Nm. To suit the large number of tools that are often required to machine large workpieces, tool magazines are available up to 120-station capacity.
